Jim has wanted to be vet since first reading about James Herriot at the age of 7, and growing up with a farming background seemed a good start. After spending several years of his childhood in Devon and Cornwall he always wanted to live and work here one day.

After qualifying in 2005 from Bristol Vet School he went in search of adventure and ended up working with buffalo in South Africa.

Since then he has worked in practices in Stratford-upon-Avon, Cheltenham, Scotland, Birmingham and finally has ended up back in the South West.

Jim is a keen farm animal vet and is particularly interested in cattle fertility work and overall herd health.

Last year he married Esther, who also works at Tamar Vets, and they are excitedly expecting their first child at the end of August.

Alan is our newest member of staff who was born and grew up on a small beef suckler farm on the west coast of Ireland.  He attended University College Dublin where he studied Veterinary Medicine, after which he moved to Scotland where he worked in mixed practice.  Despite enjoying his time in Scotland, he decided to move to the south west in the pursuit of a warmer climate and a landscape that reminded him more of home.  He has thoroughly enjoyed working at Tamar Vets so far, and has a particular interest in farm animal medicine and surgery, as well as herd health.  He has a cat called Marvin whom he rescued and rehomed whilst working in Scotland and Marvin is enjoying his time in Cornwall also.
