Jon qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 2006 and after working in mixed, farm animal and small animal practices in Dorset and Somerset,  moved with his family to Bude to join Tamar Vets in December 2016.  In 2021 Jon became a director and has pursued an interest in orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery and now holds a Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice in this field. He particularly enjoy orthopaedics and wound care.

When not at work Jon can be found running around after his two young daughters, walking his dogs Dylan and Betty and he tries to go cycling, swimming and on dog walks’

Richard qualified from Cambridge University in 1995 and started his veterinary career at Locke and Preston. He then travelled to Somerset to pursue an interest in Veterinary Cardiology. Having gained a Certificate in Veterinary Cardiology in 2003, he has continued to build on an interest in Small Animal Internal Medicine and Diagnostic Imaging whilst continuing to enjoy all aspects of mixed practice. Richard has now rejoined Locke and Preston as a Director. Outside of the Practice, Richard spends most of his time being bossed about by his two young daughters. He likes to play golf and listen to music. Richard has a black Labrador called Elvis and two cats called George and Henry.

Howard graduated from Bristol University in 1982. Following a variety of different jobs in the veterinary world he then set up Locke and Preston with Mr Richard Preston in 1987. Howard enjoys all aspects of veterinary work particularly surgery. When not at work Howard can often be found walking, cycling or trying to start one of his classic cars.

Stacey started work for Locke and Preston in May 2004, she carried out her veterinary nurse training from September 2004 to June 2006 and now works as a qualified VN full time from our Bude practice. Stacey also is a clinical coach for trainee nurses. Outside work she is kept busy with her own cats.

Kathryn started work at Locke and Preston as a trainee nurse, she qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in June 2014.  She enjoys all parts of veterinary nursing, particularly the surgical side.  In her spare time she is kept busy looking after her French bulldog named Ernie and cat Sooty.

Jess started working for the practice in July 2018. She has worked in multiple vets in the south west since starting her career into veterinary nursing in 2008. Gaining experience across all aspects of the job with small, large and exotic animals. Jess has settled in well as part of the team here at Tamar. She particularly enjoys nurse clinics and can be found found running puppy parties weekly. When Jess isn’t at work she loves spending time with her two boys and husband. She doesn’t like a quiet life though and is kept busy with a multitude of pets. She has dogs, rabbits, ferrets, sheep, a hamster and a cat and will probably add to this!

Steph has been working as a veterinary nurse for over 10 years. Steph did her training at St Davids Veterinary Hospital in Exeter, where she worked as a qualified nurse until 2007, when she moved to Bude with her boyfriend and started working at Locke and Preston. She is now married, with two children and a dog! Steph has been nursing for 20 years now and her interests are travelling, nature, mountain biking, walking, cold water swimming and surfing.    She admits to being a dog breed geek and loves guessing breeds of dogs as they come in through the door. Steph loves the thrill of not knowing what to expect in the day ahead, and says you never know what’s going to happen!

I joined the practice in August 2021 after completing my A-levels. I am currently studying as a Level 2 Animal Nursing Assistant at Duchy College to then progress onto the Level 3 Veterinary Nursing. In my spare time I enjoy swimming, going out with my friend or staying at home with my family and pets. I love working at the vets and getting to see different animals daily.’

Laura started working for Locke & Preston in 2009.  Her training commenced in 2013, she qualified in January 2016, and was entered on the RCVS register in June the same year.  She loves all animals and has owned a wide variety from a young age.  Since leaving school she has worked on farms milking cows and farrowing pigs and also has a diploma in agriculture.  Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her horse or on the beach with her staffie.  Her interests are geriatrics, epilepsy and animal care.

Shannon started working in the practice after leaving school in 2017 when she started at Bicton college studying as a level 2 Animal Nursing Assistant and then went on to train as a level 3 Veterinary Nurse, where she qualified in November 2021. Shannon’s always been interested in all animals as she grew up on her family’s dairy farm in Sutcombe. Every year Shannon shows her own Brown Swiss cows at Royal Cornwall, Devon county, Holsworthy and Stratton and Okehampton show along side her family’s herd of Holsteins. She also looks after her two cats called Sox and Sooty.

Jo grew up on a dairy farm in Hartland.  She started working for Locke and Preston in 1988 and is our longest serving member of staff. She started here straight from school and worked initally as a veterinary nurse. She qualified as an accounting technician in 2006 and now works part time from our Bradworthy office undertaking all the practices paperwork! She is married to Mark with two small children. She has two cats, both of which have been re-homed from the surgery. Outside of work Jo is a keen runner.

Sue is married to Barry and they have two grown up boys. Sue has worked at Locke and Preston since 2000 and loves her job, as the main receptionist at our Bude branch. She shares her home with a wide variety of animals and runs a small wildlife rescue centre. She takes in any orphaned or injured wildlife which come into the surgery where she gets a great deal of support from our vets and nurses. Sue is also a keen photographer. In her spare time …what spare time!

Before starting my job at Tamar Vets, I worked as a receptionist and animal care assistant for 8 years at a vets in Warwickshire. I love working as part of a team.
When I’m not at work, I spend my time walking my two dogs Bruce and Bear, and looking after the pets that I have rescued. I also enjoy going to the gym 3 times a week and walking in the countryside.

Tina joined the practice in February 2016, working out of the Bude, Bradworthy and Holsworthy branches. Her main job role is on reception and in the office but loves to help out with our four-legged and feathered patients if required. Outside of work Tina enjoys spending time with her family, walking in the countryside with their terrier, Benjie, and is a keen singer and member of her local choir.

I have always wanted to work within the veterinary sector because I adore all animals and love making a huge fuss of them! Outside of work I enjoy going out with friends and long walks at the beach. I have a staffy called Bonnie who is full of beans and is my best friend!
